The Asian Festival will be held at Village Hotel Katong, the flagship property of the Village Hotels group, nestled in the heart of Singapore’s historic Katong-Joo Chiat district — the traditional heartland of Peranakan (Straits Chinese) culture. The hotel reflects the strong Peranakan heritage of the surrounding Joo Chiat and Katong district, and is within a 5-minute walk to Parkway Parade Shopping Mall and a 10-minute walk to East Coast Park. It offers unique Straits Chinese design accents and warm, cultural decor throughout the property.

Participants are welcome to explore the surrounding neighbourhood, known for its charming shophouses, heritage cafés, and some of Singapore’s best-loved local food, including the famous Katong laksa. A “Village Passport” guide is available from the hotel highlighting quaint eateries and heritage shophouses worth visiting nearby.

Accommodation

There will be no accommodation available to book through the Festival. International participants are advised to book directly from the hotel website, or from popular hotel booking sites like booking.com and Agoda.

Practical Tips for International Participants

  • Weather: Singapore in December is warm, humid, and rain-prone. Expect daytime highs around 29–31°C, muggy nights near 24–25°C, and short, heavy downpours on most days as the Northeast Monsoon sets in. Pack light clothing, a compact umbrella and quick-dry shoes. Also bring a light jacket for the icy air-conditioning indoors.
  • Electrical sockets: Singapore uses the three-pin British plug type (Type G). Visitors from countries using different plug types should bring a travel adapter.
  • Currency & payments: Singapore uses the Singapore Dollar (SGD). Credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, AMEX) are widely accepted, including on public transport, although many smaller businesses only accept cash. At the Asian Festival, cash, major credit cards and regional e-Wallet apps are accepted.
  • Language: English is Singapore’s working language.
